There are so many colorful, patriotic 4th of July food items! Unfortunately, so many of them have all sorts of food dyes in them.
There are so many problems with food dye, not to mention one son of mine goes completely out of control after consuming it. So we avoid food dye as much as possible.
Here are some naturally colored red, white and blue food to help you celebrate the 4th of July in style, but without any food dye. Yay!
1. Strawberry Shortcake
I’m not sure anything screams summer as much as strawberry shortcake does. This is always a favorite with my kids.
You can buy the shortcake at the store or you can make your own. Top the shortcake with some fresh cut berries and whipped cream and you are all set!
2. Red Salsa & Blue Chips with Dip
I love that so many old varieties of vegetables are becoming more mainstream. The blue corn chips get their color because of the color of corn used to make the chips.
You should be able to find blue corn chips in the health food section of your store. You can also order from Amazon.
3. Strawberry Watermelon Popsicle
Who doesn’t love popsicles? These bright red popsicles are made from strawberries and watermelons are super refreshing on a hot, 4th of July day. One Loves Life has the recipe for these delicious strawberry watermelon popsicles.
4. Mini Cheesecake Trifles
These mini cheesecake trifles look delicious! Each kid getting their own special cup would definitely make my kids happy.
5. Lemon Berry 4th of July Dessert
These looks amazing! Lemons and berries – mmmm! My kids, especially my middle son LOVES and craves lemony foods.
6. Fruit Cheese Snack
The star watermelon is so much fun! What a great way to dress this up a little, without a lot of effort.
I could see using mini star cookie cutters and using the mini stars in a fruit salad.
7. Berry Pizza
My friend brought these to a summer playdate years ago. They were a hit with all the kids. I’ve since made them and found them to be very easy to make and just as good as when my friend made them.
There are so many ways you can decorate these. For the 4th of July, you could make little mini flags with some berries and tiny cut up strawberries or try to replicate a fireworks design on it.
8. Puff Pastry Fruit Tarts with Ricotta Cream Filling
These look amazing! I imagine they would be a hit.
9. No-Bake Berry Tartlets
Wow! These look so yummy! The fact that they are no bake is awesome, you won’t need to heat up your house in the hot July heat.
10. Strawberry, Blueberry, Blackberry Cobbler
I love cobblers and this looks like a good one! Mixing the berries, Yum!
